Capacities alternative
A Capacities alternative that keeps your outline yours
When every note becomes an object, organising work can become work of its own. SpacebarX gives your plans, notes and next actions one fast, private tree—without a cloud workspace, a collection schema or a second system to maintain.
Start with one project · Keep Capacities unchanged while you test · No card required
Keep the important structure. Lose the database overhead.
SpacebarX is for work that needs clear hierarchy and momentum. Put every item where it belongs, move it at keyboard speed, and change the view when the question changes.

A calmer place for active projects
One project, one visible structure
Plans, notes, tasks and research live in one tree. Zoom into a branch when you need focus, move it when the plan changes, and keep the context attached to the work.
One source of truth, multiple useful views
Use Today for what is next, Board for movement, Table for review and Mind map for the shape of a branch. Every view reads the same outline—nothing needs to be rebuilt as a separate collection.
Your data stays in your hands
The original SpacebarX outline is on your device. Sync is optional and uses a cloud account you already own; OPML export and JSON backup keep the door open.
A system that gets out of your way
Use a keyboard-first workspace made for creating, moving and finishing work. No object templates or schema decisions are required before you can capture an idea.
Keep Capacities if the objects are the work
Capacities may remain the better fit if you rely on custom object types, collections, rich media and files, object properties, database-style exploration or its built-in AI workflows. SpacebarX does not replace an object database. It gives hierarchy-shaped plans and personal work a faster, more private home.
Move one project first
Treat this as a selective conversion, not an all-or-nothing account move. Choose a project that already has a clear hierarchy, convert it into an importable outline format, and use it in SpacebarX for a week. Keep your original Capacities workspace intact.
Pick an outline-shaped project
Start with plans, writing, research structure or meeting notes—not an object collection.
Export and convert it
Use the current Capacities export route, then prepare an OPML file for SpacebarX.
Run it in SpacebarX
Test the outline, keyboard workflow and Today view with real work before moving anything else.
What to expect
Text and hierarchy are the right candidates for an OPML move. Object types, properties, collections, links between objects, views, media and files should remain in Capacities. Keep the original workspace until you know the simpler outline is the better fit.
