Privacy Policy
Last updated
SpacebarX is made by One Simple Life (OPC) Private Limited. This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and where your data actually lives. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.
The short version: SpacebarX is local-first. Your outlines live on your own devices and, if you turn on sync, in a drive you own. Our servers never store the content of your notes.
Where your outlines live
When you write in SpacebarX, your documents are saved on your device, in your browser or app storage. You can create, edit, and search with the network switched off. We can't read that content, because it never leaves your device unless you choose to turn on sync.
The account we offer
You can use the free outliner without an account. An account is optional, and you only need one for Pro and for keeping your plan across devices.
You can sign in two ways:
- Email, using a magic link or a one-time code we send you.
- Google sign-in.
When you have an account, our servers store a small amount of data:
- Your email address.
- Your plan and license status.
- Referral usage, so we can apply the free Pro time you and your friends earn.
- Coarse usage timestamps, like when you were last seen, so we can keep your plan and trial in order.
That's it. We do not store your outlines, your document titles, or the content of anything you write.
Sync runs through your drive, not ours
Sync is available on every plan and it is optional. When you turn it on, SpacebarX connects to a cloud drive you already own, through OAuth that you grant. Today that means your own Google Drive or Dropbox.
Your documents are stored there as CRDT files, in your drive, under your account. The tokens that reach your drive are stored only on your device. For Google, our server performs the secure key exchange that Google requires (it holds the OAuth client secret), passes the resulting tokens straight back to your device and keeps nothing. Our servers never store your drive tokens and never receive your outline content.
The drive provider you pick has its own privacy policy for the files kept in your account. That relationship is between you and them.
Calendar push
You can optionally connect Google Calendar so that dated items become events. Those events are created in your own Google account, and the token for it is stored only on your device (our server does the same pass-through key exchange as for Drive, and keeps nothing). We don't store your calendar or that token on our servers.
AI with your own key
AI in SpacebarX is a beta feature and it uses your own API keys. You add a key for the provider you want, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, or xAI. The key is stored locally on your device.
When you use an AI feature, the request goes directly from your device to the provider you chose. Our servers never see your keys, your prompts, or your outline content. Anything the model returns is shown to you first. You review it before it changes anything in your document.
The AI provider you choose processes your prompt under its own terms and privacy policy.
Payments
Payments are processed by Razorpay. When you buy a plan, your payment details go to Razorpay, not to us. We don't store your card details on our servers. We keep the record of what you bought so we can manage your license. Razorpay handles your payment information under its own privacy policy.
Analytics are off by default
We do not turn on analytics for you. Product analytics are off unless you explicitly opt in.
If you opt in, we collect anonymous product analytics through PostHog and/or Google Analytics to understand which features get used. This never includes your outline content and never includes your email. You can turn the toggle back off at any time.
Deleting your data
Your local data is yours to delete. Because it lives on your devices and in your own drives, you can remove it directly, the same way you delete anything else on your machine or in your drive.
To delete your account and the account data we hold, email us at [email protected] and we will remove it.
What we never see
To be clear about the boundaries, our servers never receive:
- The content of your outlines or documents.
- Your sync drive files or the tokens that reach your drive.
- Your AI keys, your prompts, or the model's responses.
- Your card details.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the updated version here and move the effective date. If a change is significant, we'll make that clear on the site.
